PrestaShop makes it technically simple to sell in several countries: languages, currencies, zones and taxes come as standard. What takes work is everything else.

Languages

Quality translation of product pages, categories, legal texts, emails and the checkout process. An unreviewed machine translation shows and undermines trust.

Currencies

Showing prices in the local currency helps conversion. Decide whether prices are converted automatically at the exchange rate or whether you set round prices per country.

VAT and OSS

For sales to consumers in other EU countries, once total intra-community distance sales exceed €10,000 a year, the VAT of the customer's country applies. The One-Stop Shop scheme (OSS) lets you declare it all in Spain in a single quarterly return.

  • In PrestaShop, configure the tax rules per country.
  • Verify the VAT numbers of businesses in other countries for VAT-exempt transactions.

Shipping and returns

  • Carriers and rates per zone.
  • Realistic and clear delivery times.
  • What happens with international returns and who pays for the return shipping.

Outside the EU

Customs, tariffs, labelling requirements. It is usually worth starting with the EU.

Check with your tax adviser before you start selling abroad: thresholds and schemes change, and a VAT mistake carries over from quarter to quarter.
