Bizum in PrestaShop: how to integrate it and what to bear in mind
Bizum is one of the favourite payment methods in Spain. We explain what you need to offer it and how it works in PrestaShop.
Bizum started as a person-to-person payment system and is now a common payment method in Spanish online stores. For the customer it is quick: they enter their phone number and confirm in their bank’s app.
Requirements
- A contract with your bank to accept Bizum for ecommerce. Having Bizum on your personal account is not enough.
- At most Spanish banks, Bizum for merchants is offered through the Redsys gateway, the same one used for the virtual card terminal.
Integration in PrestaShop
With a Redsys module that supports Bizum, it is usually enough to enable the method and configure the same merchant code (FUC) and terminal your bank gives you, or a specific terminal if the bank says so. The customer chooses Bizum at checkout, is redirected to the Redsys page, enters their mobile number and confirms in their app.
Details that matter
- Spain only: customers must have an account at a participating Spanish bank. You can show Bizum only when the delivery country is Spain.
- Per-transaction limits set by each bank.
- Refunds: handled from Redsys or from the module, as with cards.
- Recurring payments: Bizum is not the best option for subscriptions; for those, use a tokenised card or SEPA direct debit.
