Selling on marketplaces from PrestaShop: what you need to know

Selling on marketplaces puts you in front of millions of buyers. In return, you pay a commission, compete directly on price and accept their rules. Integration with PrestaShop is what stops it turning into a second job.

What gets synchronised

  • Catalogue: titles, descriptions, images, marketplace categories and mandatory attributes.
  • Price: often different from your website’s, to absorb the commission.
  • Stock: the most critical part.
  • Orders: from the marketplace to your store or ERP, so they are picked like any other.
  • Tracking: the shipment number sent back to the marketplace.

Connectors

You can use each marketplace’s official connector, a PrestaShop module or an intermediate platform that connects to several at once. If you sell on more than two marketplaces, an intermediate platform usually pays off.

What gets penalised most

  • Selling without stock and cancelling.
  • Shipping late or without tracking.
  • Replying late to buyers’ messages.
Run the numbers: commission, shipping costs, returns and advertising inside the marketplace. A low-margin product can be profitable on your website and lose money on a marketplace.

And your store

Marketplaces are a channel, not a replacement. Customers who discover you there are candidates to buy later on your website: take care of the packaging, the experience and the invitation to come back, within what each marketplace’s rules allow.
