A surcharge per order with your chosen description ("Management Fees"), visible as a separate line item with its VAT, and a discount for the exact amount of that surcharge for the payment methods you wish to reward, highlighted next to them at checkout. In Spain and the EU, consumers cannot be charged a surcharge for paying by card: here, the surcharge is the same for all orders, and the discount applies to the payment methods you choose; you can discuss which one is right for you with your advisor. A surcharge per order, and a reward for whoever pays with what's cheaper for you.

Processing an order costs the same regardless of the payment method, but not all payment methods cost the same. RKR Payment Fee adds a line item to each order with your chosen description ("Management Fees") and deducts that exact amount from the payment methods you choose to highlight.

Before configuring it, please read this. In Spain and the EU, it is illegal to charge consumers a surcharge for paying by card (Article 60 quater of the Spanish General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users and PSD2); however, discounts based on the payment method are permitted. The module charges the surcharge on all orders, regardless of the payment method, and applies discounts to the payment methods chosen by the store. You and your advisor will determine whether the surcharge and its application apply to your specific situation: the module does not resolve this issue for you, and it will remind you of this on its configuration screen.

/ Reward the payment methods that are cheapest for you

You choose which payment methods receive the discount (bank transfer, Bizum, cash on delivery, etc.). Customers who choose these methods see the surcharge removed from their total and save money; you keep the payment method you prefer. If you want to go further, you can add an extra percentage or amount.

A surcharge per order, with the name you want

Own concept
"Management fees", "Handling fees"... you write it, and it can be different in each language of your store.
Percentage, fixed amount, or both
Regarding products, or products and shipping, with minimum and maximum amounts and "no surcharge from X €".
Own line with its VAT
It's added to your shopping cart with the tax itemized, and it appears on the order, invoice, and credit note. You choose the applicable tax; the amount you enter includes tax.
Customer groups that pay the surcharge
You specify which customer groups pay for it: this way your wholesale or B2B customers, or a VIP group, can avoid management fees.

Savings, along with the payment method
At the payment step, next to each discounted payment method, you can read how much you save: "-€2.50 · Discount for payment by bank transfer."
It is recalculated without losing the steps already taken
When you choose a different payment method, the shopping cart is recalculated and the payment step is reloaded, without requesting addresses or shipping information again, so that the payment module can generate its form with the correct amount. The amount charged and the order total match.
Private note if you pay with another
If the order is validated with a payment method different from the one that received the discount, a private note will be left in the order for you to review.

If you have multiple stores, each store has its own surcharge, its own concept, and its own discounts.

What you should know

The module requires the standard PrestaShop checkout process (Classic, Hummingbird, and themes that support standard payment options); third-party checkout processes are not tested. If your store applies a percentage-based cart rule to the entire cart, the surcharge will also be deducted. The payment method discount requires JavaScript to be enabled in the browser; without it, the surcharge will be charged, but the discount will not be applied.

If you are coming from version 1.0.0 (payment method surcharge), updating those surcharges will deactivate them and create the order surcharge, which is turned off, for you to configure.

  • New option "Default payment methods", empty by default: until the customer chooses, the cart has the fee and the discount of the first method of the list from the first product, also before signing in, so the total shown is already the reduced one. On the payment step the first one offered is selected, and what the customer picks is respected from then on.
  • The discount of a cart is one cart rule that changes with the cart, not a new one on every change. The discounts of carts abandoned for 30 days are deleted.
  • A discount code of this module typed by hand no longer stays in the cart.
  • The summary is redone when two payment options give the same total under different discount names.

  • In the cart, the order fee line no longer shows a quantity box or a delete link: it is not a product the customer chooses.
  • The order fee line has a neutral receipt picture instead of the theme's "no image" placeholder.
